- 2026-02-08
Taipei, February 9, 2026. Following its previously announced March concerts, the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra (ESO) returns this May with an exciting new program. Conducted by Jaap van Zweden, the ESO’s world-famous Artist-in-Residence, the orchestra will perform with the celebrated South Korean pianist Jaehong Park, winner of the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Italy. Performing in Kaohsiung and Taichung, this special collaboration will feature Russian and French masterpieces, inviting audiences to feel the powerful emotions created by composers facing the impact of war and inner conflict.

The concert opens with Ravel’s La Valse. While the music begins by showing the beauty of a grand ballroom, it slowly unveils a world falling apart and the composer's reaction to war. This is followed by Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, known as one of the most difficult pieces ever written for piano. Soloist Jaehong Park will show his great pianistic skill as he joins with the powerful energy of the ESO, creating a deeply moving experience for the audience.

Another highlight is Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E minor. Here, the master of melody shows his incredible talent, from beautiful themes to the strong sound of the brass instruments. Under the dynamic leadership of Maestro van Zweden, the ESO will bring out the different layers of this Russian classic, giving the audience a strong musical experience.
The Evergreen Symphony Orchestra will perform with Jaap van Zweden & Jae-hong Park on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Concert Hall); and on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at the National Taichung Theater (Grand Theatre).
